According to the salary calculator at The New York Times web site living in Chicago is financially a better deal than living in New York. I know that a lot of people ask what the cost of living is like out here, so I thought that I'd do a comparison with a city like New York. Even though its big difference!!!

The cost of living in New York, NY is 75.8% higher than in Chicago, IL. Therefore, you would have to earn a salary of $52,734 to maintain your current standard of living.

Employers in New York, NY typically pay 9.6% more than employers in Chicago, IL. Therefore, if you take the same type of job in the same type of company in New York, NY you are likely to earn $32,876.
