So much for Peace and Joy...

The holiday season has come upon us. Tomorrow is December 1st and let the joys of baking cookies, shopping for the perfect gift, and the playing of Christmas music everywhere begin. I have to say that this is my favorite time of year. Everyone seems so much happier, and the city of Chicago couldn't look better. Michigan Avenue is all lit up and its nice that they keep the lights on the trees through the winter.

However, for some, I guess this is just another reason to fuel a fight. As some of you may have encountered over the past few years is the debate over Christmas decorations in a public area. Most towns and cities have Christmas lights, wreaths, a tree, and maybe even a nativity scene. Then you would see Hannakuah (excuse my spelling!) decorations. I think that its nice to have both, so that no one feels left out. After all, this is the holiday season, everyone should be happy!

But here in Chicago, there is always a debate about something. Here is an article that I just read on the Tribune website about what to call the big decorated tree in Daley Plaza. For those who aren't from Chicago, Daley Plaza is where the Mayor's office is as well as other State of Illinois federal offices. This article talks about 2 debates that seem to have risen here: whether or not to call this tree a Christmas Tree, or a Holiday Tree, and also what to do say to people during this time of year? Meaning, do you say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays?" One woman mentioned that she only says Merry Christmas to family, and says Happy Holidays to everyone else. I will admit that I say Merry Christmas to just about everyone. I should probably stop that now...Well, here is the article, with such an appropriate title!! O, holy fight

I watched that on the news yesterday. How this year they're calling the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center in New York a "Holiday tree" this year. That's insane and a little extreme if you ask me.

I know what you mean when you say it makes you mad how people say "uh-huh" when you say "thank you" to them for something. I hate that too. What I really hate is when someone sneezes, like a stranger or someone sitting next to me in class and I say "Bless you" to which they don't say a thing. I'm like, could you please say thank you? I didn't *have* to say "bless you" just now. Haha.

This is ridiculous. I'm not a Christian, but I don't get offended when people say Merry Christmas or have Nativity scenes. And it IS a Christmas tree. Jewish people don't put trees up for Hanukkah (not counting the people who celebrate both); they have different traditions. We don't call it a Christmas menorah. People are too PC.
