The Big Easy and the LONG Road Home
My trip to New Orleans was great. We visited the French Quarter and walked around the French Market, went down to Bourbon St, and FINALLY got to Cafe Du Monde.
It was boiling hot down there, the humidity was unbelievable too. We don't that kind of humidity here in Chicago. I was also very happy that it was sunny the whole time that I was there, no rain at all. The only souvenior that I brought back with me is a hat that some guy was giving out for free on the street. There were a ton of t-shirts about Katrina, and others about the city, but I would only wear something like that to bed.
Other than that the food was SO good. I really think that I could live off of seafood for the rest of my life. We went to Steven's parent's house on Sunday and his Mom cooked lunch/brunch it was delicious, and his grandmother and sister came over too. His grandma was so cute, I love grandma's!
New Orleans sure isn't an easy place to leave. It's a very seductive city that will make you fall in love with it and want to stay there forever. It may have lost some of its beauty after Katrina, but its still a beautiful place. The people there do worry about what the future holds, but theres still a lot of hope.
I of course cried on Monday when Steven took me to the airport only to eventually deal with the long road home...
While sitting at the gate reading the latest In Touch magazine, we were told that the flight was going to be delayed 2 hours because of too much air traffic at O'Hare. Then when we thought that we were going to start boarding the plane they told us that the flight was cancelled.
Then I stood on a long line and got a flight back to Chicago yesterday. I had to fly from New Orleans to Atlanta, and then Atlanta to Chicago. Oh and while we were boarding the plane in Atlanta, the stewardist was taking people's carry-on bags because they ran out of room for carry- on's. Then while we were in the air, the pilot got on and said that there was a holding pattern at O'Hare and that we might have to land in St. Louis. I was just like great. I'm seriously never going to get home, I never should've left New Orleans until the weather in Chicago got better.
But, it all worked out and I got back home, luggage and all.
Sweet home, Chicago...

I'm glad you had a good time but I'm sorry your trip back sucked.
I want to go to New Orleans. We should plan a trip where we both fly down there and meet up or something...considering that I haven't seen you in SIX years!
Wow--bad trip home, for sure. I have a similar story, from going to visit NB in Colorado, but at least my flight didn't get cancelled. Glad you had fun, though, and that you got back okay. :)
